In the night sky, the brightest object other than the moon is the planet Venus. Here in our hometown, the brightest minds attend the University of Nevada (UNR), located just a short walk from downtown Reno.
During our month in Tucson, we found many excellent hikes of various lengths and difficulties, and through a surprising range of settings and sceneries. Three unforgettable hiking trails led us to a luxurious desert oasis, a brilliant moonlit peak, and a terrifying hard rock monolith.
5-4-3-2-1, Blast Off! Whoa…that’s a helluva G-force. I am feeling really nauseous and claustrophobic. I think I am going to be sick. I need to get off this thing. Where is that damn ejector button?
If the fearless lion is the king of the jungle, then the ruler of the Sonoran Desert is indisputably the saguaro cactus. Lording over the desert kingdom, the regal saguaro stands tall and proud, and wears a crown of seasonal white blossoms.
Green, warm and vivid by day, and clear, cool and dark by night, Tucson, Arizona will be our home for the month of April 2016. Every April, Tucson’s desert bloom peaks in the bright daytime sun, and Orion and the Winter Triangle loom large under the resplendent nighttime sky.
Travelling on foot, details emerge out of the blur of our rapidly accelerating world.
We are very fortunate indeed. We have a few good friends, a close and loving family, and the freedom to live our dream. Amidst all our good fortune, our most cherished treasures are our young-adult daughters Claire and Cassie.
Bags and bags of fallen leaves, and springtime pollen makes me sneeze. Broken sidewalks skin my knees. I’ve looked at trees that way.
If a Francophile appreciates all things French, then someone who loves Spain and all things Spanish must be a Spancophile. I must admit that if there is such a thing as a Spancophile, then I might qualify.
